when it rains – an experiment with concrete poetry as i understood it

when it rains!!

-p-a-t-t-e-r

splattering

drops

wake me

 of a saturday morn

f l a p p i n g    l e a v e s

Shush softly in the breeze

Stray dogs barking in the distance

Some unidentified rustling

The twitter and chirp

of squabbling sparrows

Take nature’s symphony to a fine crescendo

in the steady joyful drizzle

As morning walkers murmur pleasantries

Their Nikes gripping the wet slopes, thwack softly

Coffee smells waft through with morning ragas

People cough and sneeze, toilets flush

Car whooooooshes past

Blur in the verdure

Gate creaks

Scooter put-puts its way cautiously downhill

Another whines its way uphill

the gentle rain hesitates

TAGA  TAGA TAGA                        the mechanical rockbreaker

begins its persistent pulverising

at a nearby construction site

       drizzle!   trickle! 000!

HUMANITY TAKES OVER!!

the poem was written to form the shape of a drop.  i hope it has enhanced the effect.
