blackout poetry

newspaper blackout poetry by Austin Kleon was interesting. you pick out a random page in the paper, and blackout everything except the words that you need.

some of the verse thus created captured moments beautifully –

“i

am

in the

wind

standing

on a tractor

by the house

the laundry lines

with shirts flapping”

words and bit phrases are read in the sequence in which they appear in the paper. occasionally they are blacked out. i understand there’s something called haikuleaks, where haikus are created from prose web content. interesting. there’s poetry in everything!
